Min says Russia not to discuss gas supplies to Ukraine on Monday
BRUSSELS, Jan 21 (PRIME) -- Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission will not discuss supplies of Russian gas to Ukraine after 2019 but will discuss transit issues on Monday, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters.
“We will only discuss transit in the framework of today’s consultations,” Novak said.
The contract of Russian gas transit across Ukraine will remain in force until the end of 2019.
Earlier on Monday, Novak met with European Commissioner for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin.
The countries had the first round of trilateral talks in July 2018, where they agreed to create a joint expert group to discuss all issues of the gas transit after 2019. Experts had two meetings in September 2018 where they discussed related issues like management of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, aspects of Ukrainian and E.U. legislations, transit tariffs, and E.U.’s demand for gas over the next 10 years.
